IGI - The Gemological Institute
Gemstones have existed for millions of years. When people first discovered these gifts from nature, a systematic approach to distinguish, cut and trade them was developed.

In the course of the last century, the quality criteria for gemstones became more and more demanding, new cutting methods were developed, and with the advent of technological advances, the need arose for independent gemological reports for diamonds, colored stones and jewelry.

Each gem is unique. With the naked eye the consumer is unable to see the difference between a flawless stone and one with a small inclusion. The consumer therefore requests all the necessary technical information recorded on a report issued by an internationally accepted institute. In 1975, very few gems were certified. Today, almost every valuable stone receives a gemological report. These reports have created a link between the jeweler and the client. They make it much easier for a seller to explain the characteristics of the item and give a feeling of security to the client who is thereby more able to understand the different qualities of the gems and jewelry.

IGI, the oldest institute of its kind, originated  in Antwerp, Belgium. It was created  in 1975 in order to cater to the growing demand for unbiased and independent gemstones and jewelry reports. IGI is one of the leading gemological institutes in the world, and today hundreds of  IGI employees are dedicated to a policy of optimum quality service in New York, Antwerp, Mumbai, Tailand and Tokyo. Thousands of diamonds, colored stones and jewelry articles are examined annually at the longstanding Institute by highly qualified professionals. Over 3.3 million gems and jewels bearing the IGI Report have been traded in more than 100 countries.

Assure your Buyers that your Diamond is IGI Certified.
